Mum takes care of everyone, always keeping a watchful eye on the home and everyone in it. But performing all of these duties on a daily and nightly basis leaves little time to put into yourself. You simply cannot take care of others if you are not healthy enough to do so. This is why it’s important to do what you can to take care of you.

It isn’t easy, but there are a few things that you can do to take control of what you can and make things a little bit better for yourself.

Get moving. As a Mum, you are always on the go. But you need a few extra moves in order to distress and chill out. Exercise can get your endorphins going to make you feel good. Take a brisk walk, do some yoga, or put on some dance music and let loose.

Eat well. Every Mum knows that sugar and caffeine can get you going. Unfortunately, they don’t have enough to keep you going, and a crash is inevitable. Choose smart foods like whole grains, nuts, and fruits for snacks and eat clean, sustainable, and organic whenever possible.

Stay connected. This doesn’t mean checking out the latest recipes, entertainment news, and baby fashion trends online. It means having a physical connection with your partner, your friends, and yourself. Schedule a date night, a girls lunch, or a coffee date with your neighbor on Friday mornings. Just don’t isolate yourself.

Sleep. Aim for at least six to seven hours of sleep to keep yourself well. Take naps if you have to make up for lost time. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain, depression, and even heart disease.

Just say no. If you don’t have to do it right now, say no. Set boundaries that reinforce your self-respect and self-care. Saying no to something that you don’t want to do will allow you to say yes to the things that are important. (Like looking for the hottest baby fashion trends online.)
